OILERS + FLAMES VS THE KINGS POINTS UPDATE:
Well, the Los Angeles Kings lost to their former Western Conference boo
, the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-3 on Tuesday night
. And after the game, the LA Kings did the only thing they know how to do to help this teams score more goals.
WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE PAST GAME:
It looks like our friends over at The Canafornians
have finally figured out why the LA Kings have been struggling the last few weeks.
FYI, that Dec 19th game against San Jose was also the last time Toffoli scored a goal.
LA TOURISM BOARD:
Enough about the LA Kings struggling! Let's take a trip back to February 11th, 1994
... when the LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks were teams that were matched evenly in the Western Conference!
Looks about right.
To help us get excited for these back-to-back Kings vs Ducks matchups that culminate in the Coors Light Stadium Series™ game, Spike Coffman, who is The Royal Half's 1990s LA Kings Historian, has put together a collection of videos from the 4th time the Kings and Ducks played each other during the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim's inaugural NHL season. And when Spike puts together these videos, it's really amazing the rare stuff you find...
Like hockey being shown on ESPN!!!
And NHL games being postponed by snow!
After making the Final in 1993, the Kings wouldn't make the playoffs for 4 seasons.
I have no idea how long the marriage of those Kings and Ducks fans lasted.
So before we get to the start of the game, let's take a look at how these two teams matchup. First, in goal...
When you are playing against Kelly Hrudey in 1990s... don't even bother showing the other goalies' face.
Now let's see how they matchup in owners...
One of my most vivid memories of the 1990s is Michael Eisner wearing a Ducks hat like a dad.
Bruce McNall was keeping a low-profile in 1994.
And let's see how these two teams match up in terms of fans during February of 1994...
Okay, that is confusing.
Never change, Anaheim home crowds. Never, ever change.
Finally, let's see how the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim matched up with the Mighty Wayne Gretzky in 1994...
Almost as many points as the Ducks scored on the Canucks last week.
Enough with the pre-game analysis... let's get to the exciting hockey action. Now, the NHL is really marketing the Ducks and Kings as rivals heading into this weekends Coors Light Stadium Series™ game at Dodger Stadium. But there was a time when these teams had to work really hard to be rivals. Right, Todd Ewen?
Man, I can't believe the NHL in 1994 had players that accused the league's best player of crying!
Boy, the game hasn't changed one bit, has it?
Mike Donnelly, forever.
Stu Grimson, Christian athlete.
Van Allen from Corkum and Semenov is the most 1994 Mighty Ducks goal ever.
My mistake, Corkum from Douris and Valk is the most 1994 Mighty Ducks goal ever.
I could watch this pass all day long.
I seriously can't believe this team never won the Cup in the 1990s.
Okay, okay... Dollas from Yake and Sweeney is the most 1994 Ducks goal ever.
Gretzky's 5th point of the night. While Todd Ewen had 76 points in 518 games.
But Gretzky passing to Kurri wasn't the most magical thing that Spike Coffman uncovered in this game from February 11th, 1994. No, it was this...
Who puts ketchup on french toast?!?
This was also used as Barry Melrose's "Expect The Best" video dating submission.
And it was also shot by the guy who shoots all of JJ Abrams' films.
As created by Jesse Cohen from All The Kings Men Podcast... The Moulson Index™ highlights an opposing player from tonights game who has the opportunity to score against his former employer, the LA Kings.
Tonight's Moulson Index Spotlight is:
DUSTIN PENNER, LEFT WING
In 26 games versus the LA Kings, Dustin Penner has 9 GOALS & 9 ASSISTS

THE ROYAL HALF GAMEDAY PREVIEW TWEET OF THE DAY
The LA Kings were kind enough to invite me to a media and staff skate at Dodger Stadium...
It truly was a magical experience and I'm glad the local news was there to cover it!
Never change, local media. You couldn't even if you tried.
