On February 19, the LA Kings and Blue Shield of California hosted 60 Balboa Elementary students as part of the Kings G.O.A.L.S Program.
The students are all participating the NHLAPA's Future Goals program, which is focuses on enagaging students with Hockey Scholar, a web-based course that leverages hockey to teach foundational math and science concepts.
The students put this knowledge to use during their STEM Day at Toyota Sports Center.
Their afternoon started by watching the Ontario Reign practice. Then, they got to hit the ice with Kings Radio Analyst Daryl Evans and the Kings Ice Crew.
On the ice, there were four stations for the students to rotate through. The stations included how to shoot a puck, how to pass, how a zamboni works and why players wear hockey pads.
Evans was on hand to teach the students about angles by showing them how to hit the puck off the boards.
It was a great day filled with learning and hockey!
