LOS ANGELES – The Kings Care Foundation, the award-winning, non-profit children’s charity of the Los Angeles Kings, has teamed up with the Blood Donor Center at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for Platelets For Playoffs 2013.
Kings fans are encouraged to donate platelets at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles from Wednesday, May 1, through Wednesday, May 8. Those who do will be entered to win two playoff tickets for Game 6 (if necessary) of the Kings Stanley Cup Conference Quarterfinal series against the St. Louis Blues on Friday, May 10. Additionally, one lucky donor will also win a Kings game-used autographed stick.
“Last year, as the Platelets For Playoffs program kept moving forward with one Kings victory after another, so did the excitement around the hospital,” said Aileen Jenkins, Supervisor of the Blood Donor Center. “There were platelets donated by 156 fans during this promotion. Thanks to the promotion, some of these fans have become regular donors to help the hospital’s very sick patients. With the number of platelets donated by Kings fans, we were able to help over 300 children who have bone marrow disease, leukemia and other cancers.”
Platelet donations take two to three hours to complete. Due to these time constraints, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles requires platelet donors to schedule their appointments. Platelets For Playoffs appointment times are available from Wednesday, May 1 through Wednesday, May 8 at: 7:30 a.m., 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 10:30 am, 12:30 p.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Also, special early bird appointments are available on Friday, May 3 at 6 a.m.
