"Once again, so many people from so many different walks of life came together to help fight Cystic Fibrosis," Kings alumni and television analyst Jim Fox said. "The commitment shown by the friends and families continue to inspire everyone in our 'fight for a cure.'"
Cystic Fibrosis affects more than 30,000 Americans and one in 31 - more than 10 million people - is an unknowing, symptomless carrier of the defective gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis. According to the CF Foundation’s National Registry, one half of all individuals with CF live into their 30’s: however, one half do not. While there is hope on the horizon, currently there is no cure.
"This year's tournament had special meaning as we dedicated the tournament to Danny Kraus, who recently passed away due to Cystic Fibrosis," Fox said. "Our hearts go out to his parents, Frank and Wendy on his passing."
Frank and Wendy Kraus are co-chairs of the tournament along with Larry and Cheryl Zide and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Special thanks goes out to Mr. K. (Bill Klein) for his amazing and extremely generous support; to tournament coordinator Gillian Stone, to Rick Siemons of Moorpark Country Club and the Los Angeles Kings Alumni Association and the Kings Care Foundation (represented by James Cefaly and Mike Altieri) for their support of the tournament.
Also a special thanks goes out to sponsors: BJ’s Restaurants, BJ’s Restaurants Foundation, Outback Steakhouse, Warner Home Video, Inside 12x12, Deluxe Digital Studio, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Anheuser Busch, and Multi Packaging Solutions; and to the Kings Alumni and coaching/training staff: Luc Robitaille, Ian Turnbull, Brad Norton, Gary Edwards, Derek Armstrong, Mark Hardy, Jamie Kompon, John Van Boxmeer, Darren Granger, Chris Kingsley, Joe Caligiuri
"So much progress has been made in the fight against this disease, but we still have a long way to go."
