AZ IN LA: This is the third of four meetings with the Coyotes this season, and the first of two at STAPLES Center. The Kings dropped the first meeting 3-2 in OT on October 11, then shutout Arizona in a 4-0 win on December 4 in their second and final visit to Gila River Arena this season. The Coyotes just finished up a five-game home stand, where they posted a 1-3-1 record. Arizona is coming off of a 2-1 OT win over the Edmonton Oilers Tuesday night.
ROBYN ON THE MEND: Robyn Regehr left Thursday night’s game against St. Louis in the second period with an undisclosed upper-body injury and did not return. In lieu of Regehr’s injury, Jeff Schultz was called up from the Manchester Monarchs on Friday morning. Schultz, who signed with the Kings during the 2013 offseason, has never played in a regular season game with the Kings. Schultz appeared in seven playoff games last season. In 26 games with the Monarchs this season, Schultz has nine points (3G, 6A) with a plus-seven rating.
QUICK TURNAROUND: Coming off of his 24-save performance in the Kings’ 6-4 win Thursday night, Jonathan Quick will make his fourth straight start this afternoon against the Coyotes. Today will mark Quick’s 27 start of the season; he comes into the afternoon with a 13-8-5 record, posting a .924 SV% and a 2.30 GAA. Quick made 37 saves against Arizona on October 11 in the Kings’ 3-2 OT loss to the Coyotes.
DEALING WITH DUBNYK: The Kings will see Devan Dubnyk in Arizona’s net this afternoon. Dubnky, who has made 10 starts this season, comes into the game with a 6-2-2 record, posting a .922 SV% and a 2.56 GAA. Dubnyk was the winning goalie in the Kings’ first meeting against the Coyotes this season, stopping 24 of 26 shots faced in a 3-2 OT win for Arizona. On December 4, Dubnyk came in for relief of Mike Smith, and stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced in a 4-0 Kings win.
STREAKS, MILESTONES: Jeff Carter has five points (1G, 4A) in the last two games, Marian Gaborik is riding a three-game goal-streak that has accumulated six points (5G, 1A), Anze Kopitar has six points (1G, 5A) in the last two games, and defenseman Jake Muzzin has five points (2G, 3A) in the last five games. Trevor Lewis will be playing in his 301st NHL game today.
