by Staff Writer / Los Angeles Kings
VICTORIA, BC – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, dropped its second straight game to the Victoria Salmon Kings, 6-3. Luke Beaverson and C.J Stretch scored their first goals of the season in the loss.

The Salmon Kings recorded the first goal of the game on a power play. With David Walker in the box, Victoria won the faceoff and Matt Stefanishion beat Ontario goaltender, Kellen Briggs on a rebound just four seconds into the penalty kill. The Reign tied it up at 17:47. Chaz Johnson streaked down the left side and lost the puck behind the net. C.J. Stretch corralled the puck and fed it to Jordan Morrison who slid the puck under Victoria netminder Riley Gill to tie it up at 1-1.

Victoria dominated the second period with four unanswered goals on 18 shots. Goalie Beau Erickson made his Reign debut, as he replaced Briggs after Chad Painchaud beat Briggs to make it 3-1 Salmon Kings. Ontario was down 5-1 before Luke Beaverson launched a rocket from the point to make it 5-2, Victoria.

Ontario made it interesting, as Stretch logged his first goal of the season at 1:21 of the third. The teams traded end-to-end chances until 12:46 when Rick Cleaver scored to give Victoria a 6-3 lead. The Salmon Kings slowed down the tempo of play and held on for the win.

Erickson finished with 19 saves on 22 shots in his first game between the pipes. The Reign, who came into the game 11th in the league on the power play, went 0-for-5 in the game.
