ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, lost 4-2 to the Stockton Thunder before 7,434 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena Sunday evening. The American Red Cross Inland Empire Chapter raised $38,825 at the game.
After the Reign fell behind 1-0 in the first period, David Walker and Lane Caffaro worked the puck in to Shawn Collymore who lifted it over Garrett Zemlak to tie the game at one. It was Collymore’s team-leading fifth power-play goal.
Stockton jumped to a 3-1 lead on goals by Ryan Constant and Jarrett Konkle when Collymore struck again on the power play. Zemlak had trouble covering a puck in the crease and Collymore poked it into the net with only 10 seconds left in the second period, cutting the Thunder lead to 3-2. Former Reign center Pierre-Andre Bureau closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:16, and the Thunder won it by a final score of 4-2.
Mike Zacharias stopped 27 shots in his second appearance with the Reign this season, while Zemlak stopped 26 for Stockton. Tonight’s three stars were: 1) STK – Ryan Constant 2) ONT – Shawn Collymore 3) STK – Pierre-Andre Bureau
