LOVELAND, Colo. - The Ontario Reign (32-15-3-2), proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, lost 6-4 to the Colorado Eagles (28-19-1-4) before 5,289 at Budweiser Events Center Wednesday night. Everett Sheen scored twice and Kyle Kraemer extended his scoring streak to 12 games with his 16th goal of the season.
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Riley Nelson and Joey Sides before Kraemer got the Reign in the game with a power-play goal at 9:13. Everett Sheen hit Kraemer in the slot where he beat Kyle Jones with a low wrist shot. Michael Forney re-established a two-goal lead for Colorado with a goal at 15:55 and the Eagles took a 3-1 lead into the first break.
The only goal in the second period came for the Reign, as Everett Sheen tallied his eighth goal of the season at 12:43. Ontario had a 5-minute power play and a brief 5-on-3 advantage, but failed to convert the opportunity.
The third frame started with Colorado on a 5-on-3 power play and they made it count as Kevin Ulanski scored 45 seconds in to give the Eagles a 4-2 lead. Forney extended the Colorado lead to 5-2 at 5:17. Bill Bagron answered for Ontario just 23 seconds later to cut the lead to 5-3 and Sheen notched his second goal of the game, a power-play goal, at 14:07 to get Ontario within striking distance at 5-4. The Reign pulled Chris Carrozzi for the extra attacker and the Eagles forced a turnover which allowed Ulanski to score an empty-net goal, his second goal of the game, to seal the win for the Eagles, 6-4.
Carrozzi (13-7-3) look the loss with 17 saves on 22 shots. Jones (24-9-3) made 19 saves on 23 shots in the win.
