PREVIEW: Weal to make debut as Kings host Arizona

by Alex Kinkopf / Los Angeles Kings

BEWARE OF DOGS:
The Kings face the Arizona Coyotes tonight for their first of five meetings this season; they went 2-0-0 in a pair of split-squad preseason matchups in September. Tonight marks the Coyotes’ season opener, they’ll return to Arizona on Saturday for their home opener. The Kings are coming off of a 5-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night; they’re playing the second of their six-game home stand to start the season tonight.

THE WEAL DEAL: It was confirmed by Head Coach Darryl Sutter this morning that Jordan Weal will make his NHL debut tonight. Weal will most likely take Andy Andreoff’s spot on the fourth line, centering Kyle Clifford and Jordan Nolan. Weal was drafted 70th overall by the Kings in the third round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft; he spent three full seasons with the Manchester Monarchs in the American Hockey League, he recorded 69 points (20G, 49A) in 73 regular season games with the Monarchs last year, and 22 points (10G, 12A) in 19 postseason games en route to Manchester's Calder cup championship.

CLUTCH LIKE JORDAN: In the Kings’ 3-2 OT preseason victory over the Coyotes on September 22 at STAPLES Center, Jordan Weal assisted on the Kings’ second goal, and buried the game-winner in overtime.

LINEUPS: The Kings held an optional morning skate this morning at the Toyota Sports Center, with those players who did not participate taking part in off-ice workouts and video sessions. Jeff Schultz, Derek Forbort, and Andy Andreoff remained on the ice for extra work following the skate along with Jhonas Enroth, so they are expected to be healthy scratches – with Enroth the backup goaltender.
