Post-Game Notes: Kings 4, Predators 3

by Jeremy Zager / Los Angeles Kings

(Re game recap): “The effort was really good. You are playing a game last night in San Jose, a hard game, and you’ve got a team that’s sitting here fresh watching the game on television and I thought we came out and played a real good first period. I liked the energy, I liked the compete, the tempo and the attitude that we started the game with and it had a little ebb and flow I thought, but at the end of the day the compete was very good.”
(Re Gagne and Richards): “If you want to put them on a scale of one through five, I’d give them a four. They’ve made an adjustment in their life to come to the West Coast and be an LA King. That always takes time to get settled with family and kids and you’ve got other things going on in your life. They are real pros in that they come to the rink every day and they are on their own little sanctuary and come and be good teammates and learning to be members of the team and the style, the culture that we are putting together here. So, that part there gets a five in my opinion and their play is a four. They put points up on the board and they’ve been great pros to help us keep moving through it.”
(Re Parse’s injury): [It’s a] lower body injury. A little more than day-to-day.”
(Re game recap):  “It was an important win for us.  We really had to come out of that losing skid.  We weren’t happy with the way we were playing throughout that time and to finally get the win tonight was huge.”
(Re first goal of the season): “It was about time. I’ve had a bunch of chances and the pucks just weren’t going in for me.  Stolly [Jarret Stoll] made a great play on that goal tonight. He found me in the high slot there and I just fired it on net with the screen and hoped for the best and luckily it went in.”
(Re power play): “Power play was great tonight.  I felt we had a lot of chances and a lot of shots to the net.  We had good traffic as well.  He [Nashville goalie] was just getting lucky, the pucks were just catching pieces of his equipment so we just need to learn from that and continue to do that a I think a lot more success will come.”
(Re game recap):  “Especially considering what happened the last couple games at home, it was great to get this one out of the way and break that mental block we had.”
(Re scoring goals): “The first two periods we had a lot of shots on net, we threw everything at the net, and then the penalty trouble kind of took that away from us, and that tends to happen when you’re up two goals.  There’s a lot of stuff that we can take away that’s positive from this game.”
(Re game recap): “We weren’t disciplined enough, we took some bad penalties. We battled back, but it wasn’t good enough…I give us some credit, we stayed in it…I knew that the start was going to be critical, we talked about it before the game and we got off to a terrible start…We took too many penalties. We took six penalties and you look at the five-on-three they scored just as the guy got out of the box…They’re not a high scoring five-on-five team, we had to stay out of the box, we didn’t.”

(Re game recap): “I felt some areas we were doing some good things, but we definitely need to clear some things up before tomorrow night...  [The Kings] are a pretty fast team. They jumped on us quick every time we made a mistake…They have a lot of guys who can play, especially at the back end. They were pressuring us hard and their D[efense] was coming up and making it hard on our forwards in the zone. They’re a good team and they were capitalizing on it... They had a tough loss last night so they were a pretty hungry team tonight. We haven’t played a game in a couple days here but it’s no excuse. They’re a good team and so are we. They came off flying, they had some nice goals off that bat and I think that always helps.”
(Re losing David Legwand in the 1st period): “He’s huge. He’s our guy right now. He’s getting it done day in and day out. He’s playing in all areas of the game. He’s been a big guy for us this year so far, so losing him, he’s a big piece in the puzzle, but we have a lot of guys here who can step up. If one guy goes down everyone knows what they’re doing and how to react to it.”
(Re game recap): “They played a good game. We didn’t play that well and they deserve the two points… They were just better than us today. We just have to come out better tomorrow in Anaheim. We have to be flying out the gates and hopefully get a good start and take two points tomorrow.

(Re losing Legwand): “It changed a little but all of the guys on this team are great players, we can’t complain about that. It’s something that’s going to happen every game, almost every game someone gets hurt”
(Re goaltender Andres Lindback): “He played well. It’s not his fault we lost this game. We can’t give them two goal leads twice; it’s not going to work in this league. Los Angeles is too good for that. They played a good game, we didn’t play that well and they deserved the two points…We gave us a chance to win.”
