Our practices coming back from the break have been harder and more intense than normal, so none of us feel like we're flying out there right now. But I don't feel like I lost anything during the break. I feel like I kept my body in shape and I was still able to get a good amount of rest so it was a good balance for me.
We've been skating in double sessions over the last few days, almost going through a mini-training camp to get ready for our game against Minnesota on Thursday night. We're working on a lot of team drills and stuff like that so I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all pans out.
We practiced in San Diego on Friday and Saturday of last week. I think it was a good move to get out of town for a bit and hang out as a team and re-focus our energies toward the last 22 games of the regular season. We went down and had some fun in the sun and we got some good work done as well.
We're gearing up for the stretch run here. It's a big 22 games for us, especially since we're on the bubble right now for the playoff picture. So hopefully the break did us some good and we'll come back with a lot of energy and a lot of drive to get it done.
We're hoping to make the playoffs first and foremost, and then, with the skill that we have on this team, I can see us going far into the playoffs if we're hitting on all cylinders. I don't have any personal goals right now, I just want see this team make the playoffs and go for a long run.
As far as the Olympic tournament, it really didn't play out the way I expected it to. The American and Canadian teams both struggled a little bit. I was expecting them to go a little bit further and perform a little bit better. The Canadians were shutout three times and the Americans only won one game so that was a little surprising. But all of the games were fun to watch.
I think the current format with NHL'ers playing in the Winter Olympics is a great idea. The players respond to it well and I think it's what they want to do.
