George Parros Journal Entry one
Feb. 6, 2006

I felt really good about my game coming into training camp. I was coming off a good year in Manchester where I made some big strides. But that was quickly shot down because, all of a sudden, Ken Belanger was in the mix.

It was like, oh man, they're looking for somebody else for this role? I thought it would be just me and Flinner and that they were happy with both of us, but then, all of a sudden, they're bringing this other guy in. It was like, are they questioning us? Were we not doing the job that they wanted?

That was pretty nerve-wracking. It knocked me back on my heels. But, I tried not to worry about it and I played my game. I felt like I was effective when I played in the exhibition games and that there was a lot of emotion and a lot of energy in my game. I felt like I kept it simple and stuck to my role.

I was feeling pretty good about myself, and as they started whittling guys down and sending them to Manchester, they kept not calling my name. I told somebody else this earlier this season. They never actually ever told me that I made the team. They just never called me into an office to tell me I was going down. There never really was that celebratory moment of making the team, but that really didn't matter.

I still feel like I'm on the bubble, and I am. I can't get comfortable around here because the minute I do, I lose my job. I'm the kind of guy that needs to work day in and day out and play on edge.

Of course, I feel like I'm part of the team. But, I've never been fully comfortable out here. I've never been totally settled in. I always feel like I'm on the bubble with a two-way contract. There isn't a lot of security there. It's a tough thing to deal with, but at the same time, I think I'm handling it pretty well right now. I'm just trying to play simple and stay within my game.

Aside from scoring my first goal, which was more than I ever could've imagined, I'd say the most gratifying moment of my season so far was being a part of Lucky's record-breaking game. I've also really enjoyed getting the chance to skate on the same ice with several players that I idolized growing up.
