I roomed with Alexander Ovechkin on the road all of last year. He wanted to room with a North American guy so he could learn more about the culture and brush up on his English, so we were roommates from Day 1. It was a great year. He's a tremendous kid with a great personality and he's obviously exciting to watch play this game.

I felt like one of his parents early on because he knew nothing about the business side of hockey. He was always asking me why this guy got traded or why was this guy signed. He was very curious about every little thing. He wanted to learn more and more. It was an enjoyable experience for me and I was glad that I could be helpful.

Character in the locker room is something I feel confident I can bring to the Kings. I firmly believe that's where it all starts, with a good dressing room and great character guys. I'll start with that and build from there.

I think I can contribute to this team in lots of ways. Last year I got an opportunity to play on the power play and I've also been used in a defensive role as a checking line guy. I think I can do some penalty killing as well. I'd like to be a checking line winger that can hopefully put up 20 goals and 40 points for the Kings.

Regarding my preparation for the season, I usually stay off the ice until early July but this year I started training a little bit earlier because my team was done in April. My regimen calls for workouts at the gym and at the track all summer long. Toward the middle of July, I get back on the ice about three times a week. Once August starts, I'm on the ice five days a week going through drills and scrimmaging.

I'm skating more and more all of the time and I'm really looking forward to moving out to Southern California. My family is excited and we're gearing up for the middle of September. I plan to get to there two or three weeks before training camp starts so I can get acclimated to the guys and the new surroundings and go from there.
