Bill Ranford Journal Entry Two | Read Entry One
July 24, 2006

I was really happy with the six goalies that participated in our scrimmage to close the Prospects Camp in El Segundo earlier this month. Jonathan Bernier, who we held out of the scrimmage because of a minor injury, is probably the one guy that I've seen the most, so it was nice to see the other six guys in a game-like situation. They all played well and that's a good stepping-stone.

I think the big thing I was looking for at the scrimmage was whether or not they would work on the skills that we worked on during the previous four days of camp. We talked about our positioning and our depth and the guys were really focusing on those sorts of things. You could tell they were concentrating on it and that's a real positive.

Since my last journal entry, we've added Dan Cloutier to the goalie mix. Dan is a real competitor and he's a great leader in the dressing room, so I think he's going to bring a lot to this organization. As long as we can get away from that injury bug that he's gone through lately, he's a guy with three or four 30-plus win seasons and that's pretty tough to come by. We're really looking forward to the challenge with the guys we've got coming back.

Now that the Prospects Camp is over, I've rejoined my family on the road where we are in the middle of an RV road trip across the United States and Canada. We started off in Vancouver and then worked our way east, stopping in Ottawa to spend some time with Luke Richardson and his family. From there, I jumped on an airplane to come to the Prospects Camp. Meanwhile, my wife has continued on to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and then Boston. I joined her there after wrapping things up at camp.

We're kind of hitting some of the spots where I played. We went to see some friends in Washington and then worked our way into Florida and Disney World. We also spent a couple of days in Tampa before making our way west toward Texas where we'll hook up with Brent Hughes – a friend who I played junior hockey with – in Austin. From there, we'll work our way over to California and then back up to Vancouver. We've got a few weeks left, so it should be a lot of fun.
