The Los Angeles Kings, LA Kings Alumni Association Presented By Toyota, Pizza Hut and Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems are pleased to announce the “Pizza, Pi and Pucks Day,” which is set to take place today, Wednesday, March 14 at Madrona Middle School in Torrance (21364 Madrona Ave.) from noon to 1 p.m.
In honor of Pi Day (March 14 or 3.14) Raytheon will create an educational math program and pizza “Pi” lunch (courtesy of Pizza Hut) for 200 students from Madrona Middle School. The educational program will feature fun hockey math problems and activities for students to learn about and solve. Students will learn about the perimeter of an NHL ice rink, radius of a puck, diameter of a faceoff circle and more. The purpose of the program is to teach students how to apply math skills in a unique, fun setting.
Pi Day attendees will include Kings broadcasters and members of the LA Kings Alumni Association Presented By Toyota Jim Fox and Daryl Evans (as the Masters of Ceremony), the LA Kings Ice Crew, Kings team mascot Bailey, and Raytheon’s Noel Ellis, Deputy Director, Raytheon Electronics Engineering, and April Johnson, Raytheon Community Relations Manager.
As part of the company’s commitment to promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, Raytheon adopted Madrona Middle School in December as part of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce’s Adopt-a-School program. The company also provided a $5,000 grant and donated 100 computers to the school. As a partner of the LA Kings and LA Kings Community Corner program, Raytheon donated 100 LA Kings game tickets to Madrona Middle School.
