LOS ANGELES –
The Los Angeles chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA) today announced that forward Colin Fraser
is the Kings’ nominee for the 2012 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
The Masterton Trophy is awarded annually by the PHWA to honor the late Bill Masterton, a player for the Minnesota North Stars who exhibited qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to ice hockey before he died on January 15, 1968, as the result of an on-ice injury.
The Los Angeles PHWA chapter provided the following on Fraser, who is in his first season with the Kings:Colin Fraser
went through a difficult time last summer after he was traded from Edmonton to the Kings. A series of examinations showed he had a foot injury that delayed his Kings debut and would require surgery, but he didn’t let the frustration of the situation prevent him from working hard and coming back.
He went through a long rehabilitation process and finally got into a game in mid-November. He has become a fixture in the lineup since then, centering the fourth line and becoming a valued teammate.
The Kings host the Red Wings tonight at STAPLES Center at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FS West and KTLK AM 1150.
