Stamford, CT (September 21, 2005) – OLN®, the exclusive, national cable television home of the National Hockey League (NHL), today announced veteran NHL commentator John Davidson will serve as the networkns lead NHL analyst for the 2005-06 season.
Davidson, a former NHL goaltender, played 11 years in the NHL, first with the St. Louis Blues and then with the New York Rangers. After a successful playing career, Davidson entered the world of broadcasting and quickly developed a work ethic and enthusiastic style that put him among the elite broadcasters in the industry. Since 1983, he has worked for virtually every major NHL television outlet in the U.S. and Canada.
"The name John Davidson is synonymous with hockey," said Marc Fein, Senior Vice President of Programming and Production. "Not only does JD add the player's perspective to the game, but he is one of the foremost authorities on the NHL. We're excited to bring his experience on and off the ice to the OLN games."Davidson has covered almost every major hockey event in the world, including the Stanley Cup Final, numerous NHL All-Star Games and Winter Olympics. He has captured four New York Emmy Awards for "outstanding on-camera achievement," and in 1994 he was part of MSG's Rangers coverage team that received a CableAce Award for "outstanding live event coverage."
Davidson will serve as the NHL lead analyst for OLN's NHL games on Monday and Tuesday nights. He will join lead play-by-play announcer Mike 'Doc' Emrick and studio host Bill Clement as part of the OLN team. More additions to OLN's hockey programming team will be released as details become available. The NHL season begins on Wednesday, October 5 when OLN presents the Rangers vs. Flyers at 7 p.m. ET.
