NHLPA & NHL TO AUCTION 2007-08 TEAM CAPTAINS' JERSEYS

NEW YORK / TORONTO – The National Hockey League (NHL) and National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) present the return of the NHL team captains’ jerseys auction in support of Hockey Fights Cancer’s 10th anniversary.

During select games between Friday, Jan. 11 and Sunday, Jan. 13, each NHL team captain will wear a team jersey featuring a 10th anniversary Hockey Fights Cancer commemorative patch. Autographed game-worn jerseys will be available for bidding through NHLPA.com and NHL.com beginning Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. ET and ending Jan. 31 at 9 p.m. ET, with proceeds benefiting Hockey Fights Cancer. Each autographed jersey comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the NHL and NHLPA. It also will be security-tagged, serial numbered and registered into the NHL-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program.

Among the 30 jerseys available for bidding include sweaters worn by first-year Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, Detroit Red Wings five-time Norris Trophy-winner Nicklas Lidstrom and nine-time All-Star Jaromir Jagr of the New York Rangers.

Hockey Fights Cancer is a joint charitable initiative founded in December 1998 by the National Hockey League Players’ Association and National Hockey League. It is supported by Players, NHL Member Clubs, NHL Alumni, the NHL Officials’ Association, Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers and Equipment Managers, corporate marketing partners, broadcast partners and fans throughout North America. The goal of Hockey Fights Cancer is to raise money and awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research. To date, Hockey Fights Cancer has raised more than $9.5 million.
