g joey macdonald after reuniting with the team that drafted him last year, macdonald thrived as a 2nd/3rd goaltender with the wings last season shuttling between grand rapids and detroit. the wings will likely keep this arrangement going for at least the next two seasons.
c christian hanson the leafs leave hanson untendered and the caps swoop in and sign him. it's likely hanson will play a leadership role at hershey, but could see time with the big team.
g mike mckenna a depth signing for the senators, mckenna will likely be the first called to action if there's an injury at the nhl level. he will need to improve on his 3.61 gaa with albany (AHL) from last season.
rw mark parrish parrish used to be a perennial 20-goal scorer in the nhl and made a living planting himself in front of the opponents' net. these days, he's known as one of the guys traded for roberto luongo and olli jokinen in one of the most lopsided deals in nhl history.
RW ryan shannon shannon won a cup with the ducks in 2007 and had his most productive offensive nhl season last year with the sens. the lightning hope he can take another step forward. if not, they have a very solid third- or fourth-line player on their hands.
D alexander sulzer this 27-year-old german d-man is just starting to find his way around the nhl game. this stay-at-home d-man split last season with nashville and florida.
LW brian mcgrattan you may not have noticed that mcgrattan was ducks property last season but he was. He re-signs with them for 2011-12, likely as insurance if george parros goes down.
RW brian willsie another former king finds a role as willsie signs with the canadiens. while it's likely he'll spend most of his time in the ahl, willsie will find the net. he scored 30 goals last year for hershey.
G matt climie with schneider and luongo between the pipes, climie is likely destined to spend the season in the ahl but he's a workhorse who played in 55 games last season for san antonio (AHL).
G drew macintyre look for macintyre to be the first call up if there are any goaltending injuriesthis season. he has two nhl games of experience with vancouver and has twice been named an ahl all-star.
LW colin stuart the sabres re-sign colin stuart -- likely a fixture in portland for them -- who has bounced around since being drafted by atlanta in 2001.
D dean arsene arense and oystrick are strikingly similar. with these signings, the coyotes are loading up their ahl team with supporting veterans and depth in case guys on the big roster go down.
D nathan oystrick a journeyman blueliner with 65 games of nhl experience, oystrick made it from seventh round obscurity to crack into the nhl. he'll attempt to do the same next season with phoenix.
c phillipe dupuis after not even getting a qualifying offer from the avs, dupuis lands with the leafs. last season was his first full year in the nhl and he didn't show much offensively but did play a grinding role, something leafs gm brian burke covets.
lw jean-francois jacques anaheim has been quiet during free agency and jacques certainly won't make headlines for the ducks but he's serviceable (when healthy) and will help fill out a depth role within the organization.
d radek martinek the jackets have completely re-built their blue line and you can add martinek to that list of players now. a serviceable third or fourth d-man who could see time on the power play because of his offensive ability.
c tom pyatt after losing a few key forwards to free agency, the lightning hope that pyatt can find the offense that made him a 40-goal scorer in his ohl days. hey, they rejuvenated sean bergenheim's career.
c jason arnott arnott, much like langenbrunner, may have his best days behind him, but he's going to help the blues in the same way langenbrunner would: veteran presence and work ethic.
rw jamie langenbrunner the former devils captain who moonlit in dallas last season comes to st. louis to bring leadership. he may not get 50-60 points as he did just a few years ago, but his work ethic will set an example.
g nathan lawson lawson signs with the canadiens, likely to be the no. 1 in the ahl and the first goaltender called up if there's any injury issues with the big club.
d tomas kaberle kaberle significantly upgrades the 'canes blue line. he's played in all 82 games in three of the last four seasons, which is unheard for a d-man and he might even slide in as the most offensive blueliner for the 'canes right now.
d alexandre picard picard goes to his seventh nhl team in four years. a depth d-man with decent size, picard will likely battle for ice time with the pens.
d aaron johnson johnson will attempt to crack the jackets' roster after spending all of last season in the ahl.

D danny richmond richmond has spent most of his career at the ahl level. it's unlikely the caps have an nhl role for richmond, but he'll fill a solid depth role and a voice of leadership at their ahl affiliate.
G curtis mcelhinney mcelhinney has been a career backup since breaking into the nhl in 2007-08. he's penciled in for that same role with the coyotes this season behind mike smith. it will be interesting to see if the coyotes are as effective at goal prevention with this duo as they were with bryzgalov.
LW brett sterling los angeles native brett sterling had a tremendous career at colorado college and has been a point machine in 319 career ahl games, but he has yet to get a real shot at the nhl level. it's possible that the blues are ready to give one the 27-year-old.
RW steve pinizzotto pinizzotto is a bruiser and has yet to play any minutes in the nhl in his young career but don't be surprised to see him this season patrolling the ice for the sedin twins.
RW niclas bergfors the preds look to re-assemble their a group of forwards after getting hit hard in free agency. bergfors is the type of non-flashy, effective forward that could fit right in.
lw josh green you might remember green as getting traded by the kings for ziggy palffy? No? edmonton, like winnipeg, is being careful not to add free agents in places that block their young players. green is another example.
