MANCHESTER, NH – Goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped 41 shots to give the Manchester Monarchs their sixth consecutive win with a 3-1 victory over the Portland Pirates in front of 6,328 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night.

"We had another strong effort in net from Jonathan Quick," said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. "Quick was solid throughout the course of the game."

Manchester (9-6-0-3) moved into a tie for third place in the Atlantic Division with 21 points. Portland (12-4-1-1) is in first place in the Atlantic Division with 26 points.

Right wing Bud Holloway scored the game-winning goal at 10:59 of the third period to give the Monarchs their sixth win in a row. Center Marty Murray picked up the puck behind the Pirates' cage and found Holloway along the end redline. Holloway's first shot was stopped by goaltender Adam Dennis and Murray picked up the rebound at the side of the net. The veteran center fed the puck to Holloway again, this time the rookie was in the right face-off circle and wristed a shot over the glove of Dennis. Left wing Vladimir Dravecky picked up the assist on the game-winning goal.

An early power play for the Monarchs gave the home team an early lead in the game. At 5:52 of the opening frame, right wing Trevor Lewis scored his fifth tally of the season as Pirates' defenseman Mike Weber sat in the penalty box for boarding. Murray picked up the loose puck in the middle of Portland's zone and sent it back to defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov at the right point. The rookie defenseman ripped a slap shot on target that Dennis stopped at the top of the crease. The rebound landed in front of the goaltender for Lewis to pick up and swing around Dennis for the power play goal and the early 1-0 advantage.

At 17:23 of the second period, center Tyler Bouck picked up a power play tally for the Pirates to even the game at 1-1. Monarchs center Justin Azevedo was sent to the penalty box for hooking and 25-seconds later, defenseman Chris Butler fired a slap shot from the center point of Manchester's zone that Bouck redirected past Quick. Defenseman Michael Funk assisted on Bouck's fourth goal of the season that came on the Pirates' 28th shot of the game.

Lewis picked up his second goal of the night for an insurance tally at 15:53 of the final period. Defenseman Joe Piskula sent the puck deep into the Pirates zone and center Gabe Gauthier picked it up behind the net. Gabe chipped the puck to Lewis on the right corner of the crease for the quick one-timer.

"When we came out for the third period, you could see that the momentum changed," said Morris. "That made the difference in the game."

Quick (4-5-1) picked up his fourth win of the season with 41-of-42 shots. Dennis (6-3-0) took his third loss with 27 saves.

Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Portland was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
