MONARCHS TIE ATLANTIC DIVISION FINALS AT TWO

PROVIDENCE, RI – Rookie center Gabe Gauthier redirected in his first playoff goal to nudge the Manchester Monarchs past the Providence Bruins 3-2 in front of 3,575 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Wednesday night to even the 2007 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Finals at two games each. Game five will be at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Center David Krejci scored his second goal of the 2007 Calder Cup playoffs by tipping in a shot at 1:10 of the opening period. Left wing T.J. Trevelyan controlled the puck at the bottom of the right face-off circle and snapped a shot toward the net. Krejci got his stick on the puck and redirected it past Monarchs goaltender Jason LaBarbera. Forward Sean Bentivoglio earned an assist on the first tally of the game.

Manchester evened the contest at 5:53 of the first period with a shorthanded tally off the stick of left wing Jeff Giuliano. Stealing the puck in neutral territory, Giuliano carried it into the Bruins zone and fired a wrist shot over Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen's stick and into the top left corner of the net.

Right wing Jeff Hoggan gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead with a breakaway goal at 8:25 of the first frame. Hoggan picked up the puck from right wing Martins Karsums in neutral ice and broke into the Monarchs zone. Hoggan cut to the net, past the Monarchs defender and slipped the puck between LaBarbera's legs. Defenseman Jay Leach collected an assist on the goal.

Monarchs center Marty Murray tied the score at 2-2 when he swatted the puck out of mid-air and into the net for his fifth goal of the playoffs at 16:26 of the second period. Right wing John Zeiler sent the puck on net. With traffic in front of Toivonen, the puck flipped into the air and Murray batted it down to even the game. Defenseman T.J. Kemp assisted on the tying goal.

Gauthier scored the game-winning goal at the 57-second mark of the final stanza. Left wing Matt Moulson blasted the puck from the point and Gauthier tipped it past Toivonen to even the series at two games apiece.

LaBarbera earned the victory stopping 30-of-32 shots. Toivonen took the loss with 20 saves.

Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-6 playing with the man advantage.
