Trevor Lewis and Team USA registered another win on Sunday, beating Team Slovenia 3-1 to improve their overall record to 5-0-0-1. The Americans have the best record of their group, and are second-overall only to Team Canada, which boasts a perfect 6-0-0-0 mark.
Lewis assisted on each and every single one of Team USA's goal against Slovenia; he is second on the team with seven points (2G, 5A), behind only Brock Nelson's nine (6G, 3A).
Julie Robenhymer caught up with Lewis following Sunday's victory:
Lewis, on his line:
I think we did a good job going to the net. I think all our goals were created by going to the net and Brock was really good around the net, obviously. It's tough Jack tipped that one in because it would have been a hat trick. I think he was just trying to get away from it though and it just hit his stick.
On Eichel "stealing" Nelson's hat trick:
Oh yeah….we gave him a hard time for that one, but it's good to get him on the board. Maybe that will get him some more goals.
On Team USA's effort tonight:
I think we were better tonight. Still, for whatever reason, our second periods haven't been that great and I think they got some momentum in the second period, but I think we did a good job in the third simplifying our game a little bit and getting back it.
On linemate Brock Nelson:
He's really good around the net. He's always there for those second and third chances. He controls the puck really well. He's honestly a really easy guy to play with so it's been fun playing with him.
On the nature of this tournament:
I think we've been in every different kind of game at this point. We've got a young team and we're still learning a little bit and the next game we know will be a tough one so we need to be sure we're ready to go.
On next game vs Slovakia:
I think we just need to simplify our game and get pucks deep and not try to be so skilled all the time. Just wait for our chances and capitalize on them.
