The Bruins put the first goal of the game on the scoreboard at 16:17 of the second period as goaltender Barry Brust was caught behind the net. Brust stopped the puck behind his cage. While he waited for his defenseman to retrieve the puck, Brust checked right wing Nate DiCasmirro into the boards. The puck popped free from Brust, as did DiCasmirro, who swiped the puck into the open net as he fell to the ice. DiCasmirro's third tally of the season was shorthanded and gave Providence a 1-0 lead in the contest.
Providence defenseman Dwayne Zinger took a two minute penalty for high sticking at 17:05 of the third period. Manchester capitalized with a power play goal by defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky at 17:51 to even the game at 1-1. Defenseman Peter Harrold fed the puck to Tverdovsky at the right point for the slap shot that beat goaltender Hannu Toivonen high on the stick side. Center Patrick O'Sullivan collected an assist on the goal.
Monarchs center Gabe Gauthier was called for tripping at 18:12 of the final frame and Trevelyan scored his third goal of the playoffs to give Providence a 2-1 lead in the game and in the Atlantic Division Finals. Defenseman Ryan Glenn fired a one-timer from the right point that Trevelyan tipped past Brust for the win. Defenseman Sean Curry earned an assist on the game-winning power play goal.
Brust took his first loss of the playoffs stopping 26 shots. Toivonen earned the victory with 24 saves.
Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
