Kings News's Plays of the Week (Oct. 11)

by Thomas LaRocca / Los Angeles Kings has selected our favorite plays of the week from Oct. 3-11, now you select yours.

The Kings opened the season with a three-game home stand, going 2-1-0 before hitting the road for a six-game trip that began Saturday in St. Louis, a Kings 2-1 win over the Blues.

With 17 goals and three wins in the first four games of the season, had a lot to work with. Check out this week's Plays of the Week and vote for your favorite.

Note: Highlights from Monday's 2-1 win over the Islanders will be eligible in next week's Plays of the Week. Check back here every Monday for more exciting highlights.

With the Kings on the power play and trailing 6-2 in the season opener vs. Phoenix, Ryan Smyth feeds Anze Kopitar who threads a perfect centering pass to a hard-charging Doughty. The second-year blue liner gets low on the ice and one-times it past Kings nemesis Ilya Bryzgalov for his first goal of the season.
In a relatively innocent looking play, Anze Kopitar takes the puck on a breakout and fires a laser from above the right face off circle and beats Evgeni Nabokov over his left shoulder for a 4-0 lead and an early exit for Nabby.
With his parents in town for the opening home stand, Teddy Purcell scores a very important goal for the Kings, who had seen their 3-0 and 4-1 leads shrink to 4-3...Purcell puts the nail in the coffin on a 3-on-2 break off a broken play and Jarret Stoll hits Purcell right in stride to light the lamp.
Anze Kopitar rushes up the ice with a ton of speed and schools the Minnesota defense with a fake shot and then goes between the legs of the Wild defender for an easy goal by Ryan Smyth.
In the first eight minutes of the Kings first road trip of the season in St. Louis, the Blues are buzzing looking for the first goal of the game. Andy McDonald gets the puck just outside the crease with an open cage, but Jonathan Quick moves right to left and denies McDonald. No wonder Quick was the NHL's No. 2 Star for the week!
