LAKings.com had a contest Wednesday on the Official Los Angeles Kings Facebook Page asking Kings fans to tell us "What is your favorite of the Kings all-time minor league affiliates and why?"
While there were a lot of great answers (most of you seemed to really like the Long Beach Ice Dogs), only one person could win. Ernest Reyes had the winning entry with this story, because we feel that there should be more hockey in California as well:
"I have to choose the Ice Dogs. Being a California resident I rarely have the time or ability to get out to our other minor league teams. So, having a local club with our players intertwined was pretty special. Not only that, but Long Beach games were always a fun time. Games were loud and a little crazy. Heck, to be frank, there isn't enough hockey in SoCal. So please add more minor league affiliates here to go along with the Ontario Reign."
For his winning entry, Ernest will receive a signed Anze Kopitar player card.
Here are the top five runners up, in no particular order:
"I personally like the Manchester Monarchs. The reason why I like the Manchester Monarchs is because the Monarchs are the most experienced team and they are the ones who have made it very far in the playoffs. I also think that the Monarchs are very talented and young. Most of the players are in their early 20's and most of the players have played in the NHL. The Monarchs came to the AHL in 2000 and since then they have made the playoffs seven years in a row, along with that they have won the Calder Trophy. The Monarchs have the most fans showing up at the games, they have an average of 8,500."
"My favorite hands down were the Long Beach ice Dogs and I feel this way for several reasons. The biggest reason by far was their location. I feel that being basically a local minor league affiliate helped because a Kings fan could actually go to several Ice Dogs games and watch the prospects at work. It was very easy at the time to be a Kings fan and an Ice Dogs fan. I remember personally going to several Ice Dogs games with my roller hockey team and I still have a Home and Away sublimated jersey of theirs that I wear during my games. That brings up my other reason for thinking they were the best and that was the symbol and the jersey. They had what I feel was the sickest jersey with the paws on the wrists and the broken chain at the bottom not to mention the color scheme."
"I grew up in Ontario, so I say the Reign. Have to have hometown love. I want them to win it all!"
"Ice Dogs without a doubt. I was living in Long Beach when the Ice Dogs were there, and it was nice to go to some Kings games before I had season seats and then go to some minor league games as well. I have enjoyed some loud and crazy games there in Long Beach and I became very happy when the Ontario Reign came in to view. NHL hockey is the best in the world, but it is nice to see some minor league games to see where they came from."

"Rocky the Roadrunner rocks, one of the oldest mascots in hockey. The Roadrunners were one of the first affiliates that Kings fans really paid attention to. I named my youth hockey team after them."
