The LA Kings have signed defenseman Austin Strand to a one-year, two-way contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $771,750 at the NHL level.
Strand, 24, made his NHL debut with the Kings last season, tallying an assist in 13 games. He also played in 19 games with the Ontario Reign (AHL), recording five points (1-4=5).

The 6-3, 215-pound defenseman has played in 103 regular-season AHL games with the Reign, compiling 38 points (16-22=38) in those contests. He also appeared in nine games with the Manchester Monarchs (ECHL) during the 2018-19 season, posting three points (1-2=3) in nine games.
The Calgary, Alberta native was originally signed by the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on Nov. 28, 2017. Prior to joining the Kings, Strand skated four seasons in the WHL with the Seattle Thunderbirds and Red Deer Rebels, registering 122 points (40-82=122) in 268 regular-season appearances and adding 20 points (7-13=20) in 42 playoff games. In 2017, after being acquired by Seattle midway through the season, he helped the Thunderbirds capture the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL Champions with 14 points (4-10=14) in 20 playoff games, which ranked fifth among all WHL defensemen.
