Kopitar to go as Kings host Blue Jackets

by Alex Kinkopf / Los Angeles Kings

JACKET WEATHER: Tonight marks the first of two meetings with the Blue Jackets this season; the Kings will travel to Columbus’s Nationwide Arena on December 8. The Blue Jackets are playing the second of a three-game road trip through California, they’re coming off of a 5-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. The Kings are kicking off a five-game home stand tonight, they’re coming off of a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.

KOPITAR’S GOOD: Anze Kopitar, who left Tuesday night’s game after Ryan Reaves made contact with the side of his head, confirmed that he will be back in the lineup tonight. “I was lucky that it hasn’t happened to me before,” Kopitar told Jon Rosen Thursday morning in reference to head injuries. “Maybe that’s why the little bigger concern is, just because you don’t know what you’re really dealing with. But I went through all the protocols, [what] you call it. I feel good, and the tests are good, so I’m good to go for tonight.”

LINEUP: The Kings held a morning skate at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo … Jhonas Enroth left the ice first, but Jonathan Quick is tonight’s presumed starter … Matt Greene (IR) skated with the team, but as an extra alongside Derek Forbort, who is expected to be a healthy scratch … Jordan Weal skated as an extra with the forwards, and is not expected to slide into the lineup.

COMING HOME: The Kings will play host to their next five opponents as they begin a lengthy home stand tonight. This will be the second of three five-game home stands for the Kings this season, the third and final coming from March 3-12, 2016. The Kings are 4-3-0 on home ice this season, can they pocket some early-season points during this stretch of games at STAPLES Center?

LAST YEAR: The Kings went 2-0-0 in their two meetings against the Blue Jackets last season, winning 5-2 on October 26, 2014 at STAPLES Center, and 4-3 on February 9, 2015 at Nationwide Arena. Jeff Carter (2G, 4A) led all Kings players in points scored during those games with six, followed by Tyler Toffoli (2G, 3A) with five, and Tanner Pearson with two goals. The Kings are 8-2-0 in their last 10 home games against the Blue Jackets, dating back to the start of the 2009-’10 season.
