LOS ANGELES/WASHINGTON, DC – The Los Angeles Kings and D.C.-based XM Satellite Radio today announced that XM is the official satellite radio partner of the Kings hockey team.
XM, which recently signed a 10-year deal with the National Hockey League (NHL) to broadcast NHL games, will be able to sell satellite radios, provide XM listening stations and offer discounts on XM products at various Kings games at STAPLES Center.
"The Kings have a loyal and extensive fan base and we are always looking for exciting and creative ways to extend our brand," said Kings President, Business Operations, Shawn Hunter. "With the recent explosion in the satellite radio industry, and with XM really leading that charge, we feel that this new dynamic partnership is perfect for the Kings and our fans. We are very pleased to make this announcement and the Kings look forward to working with XM Satellite Radio in extending and growing our great game."
The multi-year agreement between XM and the Kings includes a variety of customized activities to promote XM radios and XM's broad range of sports, music, news, talk and entertainment programming, including significant XM presence at every Kings home game, and high visibility on the Kings website with interactive XM features and promotions. In addition, the Kings will host "XM Satellite Radio" night, which will include XM giveaways for Southern California-area fans.
"With this partnership XM's considerable online and on-site presence during Kings home games will ensure fans know XM is the satellite radio home for comprehensive coverage of the National Hockey League," said Howard Jacobs, senior vice president of strategic partnership marketing for XM Satellite Radio. "Our intent is to give each Kings fan access to their team's play-by-play coverage, plus NHL news and analysis, even if they no longer call Los Angeles home."
XM began carrying NHL games in October recently launched Home Ice (XM Channel 204), an exclusive NHL talk radio channel. XM will become the exclusive satellite radio network of the NHL beginning with the 2007-08 season.
Subscribers listen to XM on a variety of radios for the car, home, and portable use. XM is available in the 48 contiguous states, and recently launched service in Canada with its partner XM Canada.
