Kings vs Blue Jackets: Post Game Quotes

by Staff Writer / Los Angeles Kings

(Re coming from behind to win): “We have done it lots. It is tough chasing leads. We have done that all through the stretch, we have come back. We have won in two tough buildings and we finally got it off here at home.”

(Re the Olympic break): “You want all the guys that are going over there to play in the gold medal game… because they deserve it. The guys that are here, obviously there are some guys that have got a little bit of healing to do and guys that need a break like every other team.”

(Re game recap): “The guys gave me a hard time before the game about scoring that goal on these guys a couple weeks ago in their building and I just got a good opportunity tonight. Mike [Richards] did a great job at locking the puck up the wall in overtime, Jeff [Carter] was doing a really good job with the screen, and it was just a matter of putting the puck on the net after that.”

(Re game recap): “To just battle back, we didn’t have the start that we wanted to in the game, and we’ve been on a terrible run here in the last month so we’re really happy to get this win. It was a very important game for us, and now we can enjoy the break then come back and get to work.”

(Re game recap): “We’re going to look at this win as a sprint to the playoffs, we’re in a playoff position which is important, but we would like to have more points. The reality of the situation is that we don’t and all we can do is make the best of the situation we’re in, and for us, that’s building off this win, playing well, and putting together some strong hockey.”

(Re hard hit): “If it’s too hard it’s going to be a penalty, there’s a responsibility to protect yourself on the ice and the responsibility on the other side of it as well. It wasn’t like I targeted his head or anything like that, it was a body check and he happened to be a little lower than I was, so I don’t know what to do in that situation.”

(Re game recap): “I think it’s important that we got a win. This team has been struggling and we’re trying to find a way to break through. Going on a two week break with a taste of a win in our mouths is important and it feels good. We have a good team here; it’s just a matter of fighting our way through it. Tonight was a step and hopefully it’ll give us some good energy for the break.”

(Re game recap):  “I think they played really hard. There wasn’t a lot of space out there. I think they checked well I thought we checked well. It was an intense physical game and we knew that coming in and I thought we were going to get tested here in this building and I’m real happy with the way the guys came out and played the game. I thought it was going to be a low scoring game. They checked well, their systematic plays are really good and sound and we’ve been doing a good job with that as well. Coming in thinking two goals might win it and that’s the way it went tonight.”

(Re Ryan Murray): “Absolutely (worried he may not come back in) watching him get up off the bench and leave and the trainer says he has to get checked out obviously you’re worried and even though he came back, going forward you never know what tomorrow morning is going to bring, you got to get on a plane and fly and you don’t know how he’s going to feel, so hopefully he’ll get through and wake up tomorrow morning and feel fine. The hit stirred up a lot emotion in me. The way that I saw it was our player was vulnerable, vulnerable position, he left his feet and it was a form right to the chin, primary contact was the head I don’t know what else you have to do to get a five-minute major and the guy has done it before.

(Re game recap): “Our team played a very strong road game tonight. Credit to LA, they really stuck to their game and found a way to win. That’s the way it goes sometimes. I like the way we played tonight though. I think Quick made a few big saves on us. It was a good road game for our team though.”

(Re physicality): “They’re a big bodied team over there. We had to match the physicality and I thought our team toughness in here showed out on the ice and our guys played a hard and heavy game.”

(Re team penalties): “Yeah I took a bad one there too, but for the most part I thought our penalty kill did an unbelievable job. We need our penalty kill to step up when we’re taking penalties like that which they did but against good teams like this we can’t be doing that.”

(Re physicality): “I mean I obviously didn’t like that hit on Ryan (Murray). I thought that he was in a pretty vulnerable situation. I didn’t like that he (Dustin Brown) only got two minutes for that, but it was an emotional part of the game and we rallied around it, continued to push and keep them at bay. We were right there with them but just couldn’t find that overtime goal.”
