SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – The Los Angeles Kings will play the San Jose Sharks in a pre-season game at the E-Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Sunday, Oct. 5, as part of the club’s 2008 pre-season schedule.

The announcement, made today by Kings President of Business Operations Luc Robitaille at a press conference in Salt Lake City, brings the Kings’ pre-season schedule to eight games. The Kings will also play in Kansas City at the new Sprint Center vs. the St. Louis Blues, and in Las Vegas vs. the Colorado Avalanche in the annual Frozen Fury game.

“We are excited to go to Utah and to take part in this event with the Utah Grizzles and the Sharks,” said Robitaille. “I took part in the last Kings game in Utah back in 1998 and I know the area fans are excited to see the return of NHL hockey to the E-Center.”

The Kings last played in Salt Lake City on Oct. 3, 1998, a 2-1 preseason defeat of San Jose in OT. The Kings have played three other games in Utah, a 2-2 tie with Cleveland on Sept. 30, 1976; a 5-3 defeat of the Seals on Sept. 29, 1975 and finally a 5-5 tie with the Salt Lake City Screaming Eagles on Oct. 3, 1974.

The Manchester Monarchs, the Kings AHL Affiliate, played two games against the Grizzlies during the 2004-05 lockout season. The first game was played in Utah on Oct. 20, 2005, a 5-3 Manchester win. The second game was played at STAPLES Center on Oct. 23, 2005, a 5-0 shutout win with goalie Adam Hauser stopping all 20 shots he faced.

Kings forward Dustin Brown was a member of the Monarchs when they played Utah during the 2004-05 season.
