LOS ANGELES –- Calling all kids and adults with aspirations of becoming the next NHL Legend. Thanks to a partnership between the LA Kings and the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, free hockey clinics for youths and adults are offered in December and January at LA KINGS DOWNTOWN ON ICE, the Southland’s premier holiday skating rink located at landmark Pershing Square. Reminiscent of a frosty lake, there’s nothing quite like learning a backhand slapshot or powerplay on outdoor ice in the heart of the City of Angels. At no cost, no one misses out on the chance to suit up for instruction.
Free youth hockey clinics run from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sundays Dec. 2, 9, and 16 and Jan. 6, 13 and 20 at LA KINGS DOWNTOWN ON ICE (532 South Olive) which is open everyday for holiday fun Nov. 15, 2007 through Jan. 21, 2008. Free adult hockey clinics get underway from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays Dec. 5 and 12 and Jan. 9 and 16. Jim Fox will be the guest instructor for the Youth Hockey Clinic on Sunday, Jan. 13 and for the Adult Clinic on Wednesday, Jan. 9
To sign up go to www.laparks.org or call 213/ 847-4970. Participation space must be secured in advance to ensure hands-on guidance.
Both on and off the ice, as “Ambassadors of Goodwill” the LA Kings serve nearly one million children annually through diverse educational, recreational and social development programs. Expanding awareness of the sport while igniting a passion for the game, the free youth hockey clinics are an integral part of the community outreach process that also encourages healthy exercise.
“When kids are given the chance to face challenges and test their abilities in sport, they learn more about themselves and gain a confidence that carries through to other aspects of their lives,” says legendary Luc Robitaille, an advocate and key member of the non-profit children’s charity “Kings Care Foundation.”
Celebrating its 10th holiday season, LA KINGS DOWNTOWN ON ICE is easily accessible by car, bus or rail. Public skating is only $6 with skate rental $2. Clinic sign ups and more info available at www.laparks.org or 213/ 847-4970.
