Kings set for Jets, kick-off home stand

by Alex Kinkopf / Los Angeles Kings

JETS (1-1-0) at KINGS (0-1-1)

WINNIPEG WESTWARD: The Kings welcome the Winnipeg Jets to Los Angeles tonight for the teams’ third regular season game of the campaign at STAPLES Center. The Jets have begun their season with a three-game West Coast road swing which comes to a close tonight against the Kings. Winnipeg trumped Arizona 6-4 on Wednesday night, and were held scoreless in a 3-0 loss to San Jose Saturday night.

HOME FOR A BIT: The Kings are kicking off a six-game home stand tonight, which will equal in as their second longest on this season’s schedule. The Kings will play seven straight at home from January 3 – January 19. The Kings were 23-14-4 on home ice last season. Can the Kings find their feet during this early season home stand?

JET SET: Tonight marks the Jets’ second game at STAPLES Center since the franchise moved from Atlanta, Georgia as the Thrashers prior to the 2011-’12 season. The Kings are 2-1-1 all-time against the new Winnipeg Jets franchise, including a mark of 2-1-0 last season. The Jets’ only visit to Los Angeles, coming on March 29 of last season, saw the Kings run away with a 4-2 win.

JONES SEES JETS: Martin Jones will get the call in net tonight, making his first start of the season. Jones filled in for Jonathan Quick on Wednesday against the San Jose Sharks, playing the third period, and stopping all three shots he faced. Quick is simply resting after making 37 saves on 40 shots in the Kings’ 3-2 OT loss to the Arizona Coyotes Saturday night.

TAB IN MCNABB: Defenseman Jake Muzzin has not been cleared to play tonight, so rookie Brayden McNabb will continue to get some NHL minutes in his absence. McNabb, in just under 18 minutes Saturday night in Arizona, tied for the team-lead in hits with six, right alongside Robyn Regehr. McNabb will likely pair with Drew Doughty.
