LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have re-signed defenseman Mike Weaver to a one year-contact, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.
Weaver, 28, who was a restricted free agent, played in a career high 53 games for the Kings this past season (his first with the club) and recorded a career high nine points (all assists) and 14 penalty minutes. In addition, the 5-9, 182-pound native of Bramalea, Ontario, recorded 52 hits and 48 blocked shots.
Originally signed by the Kings as a free agent on July 16, 2004, Weaver has 15 points (all assists) and 44 penalty minutes in 110 career regular season NHL games with the Kings and Atlanta Thrashers.
Prior to his pro career, Weaver played four seasons (1996-00) with Michigan State University of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association where he recorded 48 points (5-43=48) and 202 penalty minutes in 163 games.
