This week’s highlighted prospect is 20 year-old Garrett Roe, currently playing for the St. Cloud State University Huskies. Roe tallied one goal and seven assists in two games for the Huskies as St. Cloud defeated the Mercyhurst Lakers 7-2 and 7-3 last week. St. Cloud is now 2-0-0 to start the 2008-09 season.
“Garrett is a real dynamic player, and that doesn’t surprise me that he would start the season off like that and he would have a wonderful weekend,” said Nelson Emerson, the Los Angeles Kings Coordinator of Player Development . “He is a player that is very quick and agile, and he competes really hard. He is not overly big, but his competitive level is extremely high. “
Roe was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 7th round (183rd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The 5’8”, 162-pound Left Wing had 45 points for the Huskies last year (18-27=45) in 39 games.
“In order to improve, one of the things we talked to him about was his pace of play. He seems to always be going at his top level and we kind of tried to teach him to get his speed to be a little bit more give and go, and get his bursts a little more spread out.
“Garrett’s biggest thing is if we can get him to have his pace going and then be able to change directions and change his pace of play; that would be helpful for him. To have a start like that is important. Everybody always wants to get off to a good start and I am sure he is very excited about the way his season has begun.” Click here
