The weekend of October 17 & 18th, 2020 is Girls Hockey Weekend in North America, and the LA Kings and USA Hockey are encouraging players, parents, associations and rinks to celebrate Girls and Womens Hockey, to build awareness, and grow participation from coast to coast.

To celebrate the weekend, the LA Kings have committed $20,000 to the Power Project, an organization focused on providing guidance to girls from underserved communities. Using the sport of Ice Hockey, Power Project encourages girls to build self-esteem, provides positive life imagery, and to instils a belief system that they can accomplish any goal they set to achieve through hard work. Power Project delivers strong role models and mentors from the local community, who guide and support these girls into future leaders.

The donation will be used to pay for ice time, equipment, activities and various other needs of the organization.

On the partnership between Power Project and the LA Kings, Coach Estela Rivas-Bryant comments,

"There is so much we can help with, and the support from the LA Kings has an incredible impact on how we can continue to pay to it forward and serve our communities."

The LA Kings also announced that Blake Bolden, LA Kings Scout and Growth Inclusion Specialist, will play an integral part of the partnership between the Kings and Power Project. She was able to start working with the Power Project Girls earlier this summer, and immediately made an impact.

"Once Blake found out about our program, she's been super willing and excited to be involved. We got our girls together with Blake on a call, and having her tell her story and her challenges, the girls we're like 'yes, you get it! That was something that these girls don't always see, they don't always hear from people that understand them, and have gone through what they've gone through. To have Blake involved and share her stories and experiences is so meaningful" said Coach Estela.

Blake is just as excited to continue working with the organization.

"I can't wait to get started! The girls have been so patient and fun to interact with thus far, I'm just so excited to share my experience and love for the game with them" commented Blake.

Power Project members participated in Kings Camp this past August, and the LA Kings are looking forward to having them back on the ice soon.
