Kings Officially Clinch Spot for 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have officially qualified for the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs.  The Kings earned their second consecutive postseason berth tonight after defeating the Phoenix Coyotes, 3-2, in a shootout in front of a sellout crowd at STAPLES Center.

The schedule for the first round of the playoffs for the Kings – currently 46-28-6 (98 points) – will be announced by the National Hockey League once it becomes finalized.  The Kings will announce their postseason TV and Radio broadcast schedules once they are finalized.

The 46 wins tie a Kings franchise record, marking the third time Los Angeles has reached the 46 win plateau.

The Kings’ schedule for the remainder of the regular season is as follows (note all practice times are subject to change -- media availability with players and Head Coach Terry Murray follows each on-ice session):
  • April 7 – 11:30 a.m. practice at Toyota Sports Center
  • April 8 – 10 a.m. skate at Toyota Sports Center/game at Anaheim (7 p.m.)
  • April 9 – 10 a.m. skate at Toyota Sports Center/game vs. Anaheim at home (7:30 p.m.)
The Kings will distribute an electronic version of their 2011 Postseason Media Guide starting on April 11.  Printed copies will be available beginning April 12.  The Kings communications department will also be distributing their General Media Playoff Information procedural guidelines in the coming days.

Tonight’s sellout was the 34th of the season (a team record at STAPLES Center) and the 17th consecutive full house.
