Kings embark on three-game swing; see Stars in Dallas

by Alex Kinkopf / Los Angeles Kings

KINGS (11-5-4) at STARS (7-9-4)

TEXAS TRIP: This is the third and final meeting with the Dallas Stars this regular season; all three of the clubs’ match ups have come during the month of November. The road teams have fared well so far in the season series, the Kings winning 3-1 at Dallas’ American Airlines Center on November 4, and the Stars winning 2-0 at STAPLES Center on November 13. The Stars snapped a three-game losing streak Thursday night at home with a 3-1 win over the Arizona Coyotes.

ALEC’S ON BOARD: Defenseman Alec Martinez is traveling with the Kings as they embark on a three-game trip, but it is unclear if or when he will be healthy enough to return to the lineup. Martinez skated for the third consecutive day prior to the Kings’ practice in El Segundo on Friday, he was injured last Thursday when he took a shot to his left hand in the Kings’ 2-0 loss to the Stars in Los Angeles. Martinez had surgery on his left pinky finger last Friday.

FIRST TO WORST: As the Kings venture off for a three-game road trip, they’re leaving behind the building that’s seen them earn 10 of their 11 wins this season, and 21 of their 26 points in the standings. Tonight’s setting happens to be the only building other than STAPLES Center that the Kings have won a game in this season – American Airlines Center. The Kings are 1-3-3 on the road this season, the worst mark in the NHL.

LINEUP NOTES: The Kings’ lineup is expected to be very similar, if not exactly the same, that it was Thursday night against Carolina. Expect Jonathan Quick to start in net, he left the ice first during today’s morning skate. Trevor Lewis skated with the first line this morning, as did Dwight King on the second unit, and Tanner Pearson on the fourth unit. Jordan Nolan and Andy Andreoff are expected to be the healthy scratches.

DALLAS DOWN: The Stars have had a tough November, going 3-7-0 in their ten games played this month. Three of Dallas’ four remaining games in November are on home ice, which hasn’t been particularly too kind to the Stars. Dallas is 2-5-4 at American Airlines Center, they’re 5-4-0 outside of Texas. Can the Kings right their road ways and keep the Stars struggling on home ice with a win tonight?

THE LAST TIME AROUND: The Kings only previous visit to Dallas’ American Airlines Center this season came on November 4. The Kings won 3-1, as Jonathan Quick made 33 saves, and Trevor Lewis (SH), Dustin Brown, and Kyle Clifford came away with the goals. It was the Kings’ first and only win on the road this season. The Kings are 4-2-1 when playing the Stars in Dallas dating back to the start of the 2011-’12 campaign.
