Kings cap-off home stand, host Edmonton

by Alex Kinkopf / Los Angeles Kings

IN FROM EDMONTON: Tonight marks the second of five meetings with the Oilers this season, and the first of three at STAPLES Center; the Kings beat Edmonton 3-2 on October 25 at Rexall Place. The Oilers are finishing off a four-game road trip where they’ve gone 1-2-0 so far, they’re coming off of a 4-1 loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night. The Kings are completing a five-game home stand where they’ve gone 2-2-0 so far, they’re coming off of a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday night.

LINEUP: The Kings held an optional morning skate in advance of tonight’s game at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo. Derek Forbort and Jordan Weal remained on the ice for extra work with Matt Greene (IR), so those two are tonight’s projected healthy scratches. Jonathan Quick left the ice first, and is expected to start.

SLUMP-BUSTER: Marian Gaborik enters tonight’s game with two points (1G, 1A) in 16 games played; he hasn’t recorded a point in the last seven games, and hasn’t scored a goal in 11. Gaborik, though, in Edmonton’s previous visit to STAPLES Center on April 2, 2015, recorded three points (2G, 1A) – which is the only game Gaborik’s played against the Oilers on home ice since he’s been with the Kings. The veteran scorer was netting them in practice, can he carry that over into the game tonight?

THE LAST TIME AROUND: In the previous meeting between these clubs on October 25 at Edmonton’s Rexall Place, the Kings beat the Oilers 3-2. Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter scored for the Kings, while Tanner Pearson netted his first goal of the season with 3:26 to play in regulation, the night’s eventual game-winner. Jonathan Quick made a sprawling, controversial glove save on Connor McDavid with 3 seconds to play to secure the win.
