KINGS ANNOUNCE DEAL WITH LA SELECTS

by Staff Writer / Los Angeles Kings
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have agreed on principal terms of a marketing affiliation with LA Hockey Club/LA Selects, Kings President, Business Operations Luc Robitaille announced Thursday.

In March 2008, the prestigious international publication The Hockey News ranked LA Selects No. 6 as one of the top prep programs in the U.S. LA Hockey Club is one of the largest youth ice hockey programs in Southern California.

As part of this new marketing affiliation between the Kings and LA Hockey Club/LA Selects – which on September 8 is relocating their rink office and ice-skating programs to the Glacial Gardens Skating Arena in Lakewood – the two organizations will work in unison to promote hockey through outreach programs. Also, LA Hockey Club/LA Selects will work closely with the Kings’ training facility, the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, in expanding the popular Kings Kids first youth hockey program.

“One of the goals of the Kings is to continue to improve and expand youth hockey in Southern California, and our affiliation with LA Hockey Club/LA Selects is a great step forward in continuing to make that happen,” said Robitaille. “Both of our organizations are committed to the rapid growth of amateur hockey in our area. It is all about the kids and the next generation of hockey players and fans.”

Said LA Hockey Club/LA Selects Club President James Gasseau: “We are very pleased to partner with the L.A. Kings. Their reputation in the community and their commitment to growing hockey – especially Fan Development -- is second to none. We look forward to the relocation of our business into Glacial Garden Skating Arena as the three ice-sheet facility and our affiliation with the Kings is exactly what we wanted in order to continue to grow the sport and service our customers.”

LA Hockey Club/LA Select has occupied Westminster Ice Arena since 2001 and in that time they have grown tremendously with their skating school, adult leagues and the LA Hockey Club youth hockey program. LA Hockey Club/LA Selects features 21 teams and the company began the transition from Westminster to Lakewood in September of 2007 in order to satisfy the ice program’s demand.

The company’s long-term plan is to integrate Westminster’s skating school/figure skating, youth programs, and adult league into Glacial Garden Staking Arena’s programs as well. Westminster Ice Arena and Glacial Gardens have a long-term relationship that should benefit all of the skaters in the various programs that operate out of Glacial Gardens Skating Arena.

LA Hockey Club/LA Selects moves to Glacial Gardens next month. At the facility in Lakewood, the Phase One renovations are underway to extend Rink C to an NHL size ice surface by September 8, 2008, to give the facility three full size ice sheets. Phase Two, which is planned for the spring/summer of 2009, will include the completion of NHL-2 (formerly Rink C) renovations. Glacial Garden Skating Arena is home ice to not only the LA Hockey Club but also home ice to the Southern California Speed Skating Association, which has many nationally ranked speed skaters, and numerous junior and senior figure skaters who are nationally ranked.

LA Hockey Club/LA Selects has helped produce a number of local hockey players who have been drafted by NHL clubs. They have also been associated with numerous players currently participating in the American Hockey League, ECHL, juniors and college.
