LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with restricted free agent center Eric Belanger, Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.
Belanger, 27, appeared in a career-high 81 games for the Kings during the 2003-04 season, recording 33 points (13-20=33) and 44 penalty minutes. The 6-0, 185-pound native of Sherbrooke, Quebec, also established a new-career high with his 20 assists.
Originally selected by the Kings in the fourth-round (96th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Belanger has appeared in 258 career regular season NHL games, all with the Kings, and has 113 points (46-67=113) with 107 penalty minutes. This past season, he played in 12 games with HC Forst Bolzano of the Italian League and had 23 points (13-10=23) and 20 penalty minutes. He also played in nine playoff games with HC Forst and had 10 points (3-7=10) and 33 penalty minutes.
The Kings are scheduled to being training camp on Wednesday, September 14, at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.
