Key game for Kings today in hosting Canucks

PACIFIC BATTLE: Today marks the fourth of five meetings with the Canucks this season; the Kings have defeated Vancouver in the first three games of the season series. The Canucks are starting a quick two-game road trip today; they’re coming off of a 6-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night. The Kings are playing their final game at STAPLES Center today before venturing out on a five-game road trip; they’re coming off of a 3-2 OT loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night.

LINEUP NOTES: Jonathan Quick is expected to get the nod. Jarret Stoll remains out of the lineup. Here’s how the Kings skated during Friday’s practice at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo:

MARTINEZ ACTIVATED: Defenseman Alec Martinez was officially activated off of the injured reserve list on Friday afternoon. In it is unclear whether Martinez, who missed 18 games with concussion-like symptoms, will play today. Martinez skated alongside Jamie McBain during Friday’s practice.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: The Kings, who come into the day with 82 points, are just two points behind the Vancouver Canucks – who own second place in the Pacific Division. The Kings are just one point behind the Calgary Flames for third. For the wild-card, the Kings are two points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the second and final spot.

THE LAST TIME AROUND: In Vancouver’s previous visit to STAPLES Center on November 8, the Kings came away with a 5-1 victory. Five different players scored for the Kings in the win; Jonathan Quick made 18 saves.
