7:00PM PT, TV: KCOP-13; RADIO: AM 790 KABC
ACROSS TOWN: Tonight marks the fourth of five meetings with Anaheim this season; the Kings are 1-0-2 against the Ducks this season, they won 3-2 in OT on November 15 at STAPLES Center. Anaheim is finishing a three-game home stand; they’ve won three of their previous four games and are coming off of a 3-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night. The Kings are starting a three-game road trip tonight; they’re coming off of a 1-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.
LINEUP NOTES: Martin Jones left the ice first at today’s morning skate, so he is expected to start. No changes are expected to be made to the Kings’ line combinations from Thursday night, other than Andrej Sekera sliding into the defensive mix; it is unclear who will be healthy-scratched to make room for Sekera’s presence. Derek Forbort was assigned to the Manchester Monarchs earlier today to make roster space for Sekera.
GABORIK – KOPITAR – BROWN
KING – CARTER – TOFFOLI
LEWIS – STOLL – WILLIAMS
CLIFFORD – SHORE – NOLAN
REGEHR – DOUGHTY
MUZZIN – GREENE
MCNABB – MCBAIN
JONES GETS THE CALL: Martin Jones will make his 10th start of the season tonight; his previous start came on January 14 against the New Jersey Devils. In 11 total games this season, Jones is 4-3-2 with a .908 SV% and a 2.20 GAA. In two career starts against the Ducks, Jones is 1-1-0 – his win against Anaheim coming in his first career NHL start on December 3 of last season. Jones’ start tonight breaks Jonathan Quicks’ string of 16 consecutive starts – a career high.
HEY, ANDREJ: Andrek Sekera, who was acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes in a trade on Wednesday, will make his debut with the Kings tonight. Sekera has played with a number of players on the Kings’ roster in the past, including Robyn Regehr while they were members of the Buffalo Sabres. In 57 games with the Hurricanes this season, Sekera registered 19 points (2G, 17A), eight penalty minutes, and averaged 22:46 minutes of ice time per game.
GIBSON IN: John Gibson will make his first career regular season start against the Kings tonight. Gibson has started 11 games this season, posting a 6-5-0 record with a .915 GAA and a 2.69 SV%. Frederik Andersen has started all three games for Anaheim against the Kings this season; he was placed on the injured-reserve list on February 10 due to an upper-body head/neck injury. Gibson has started four games against the Kings, all during last year’s Western Conference semi-final series.
THE LAST TIME AROUND: In the Kings’ previous visit to Honda Centera on November 12, they fell 6-5 in a shootout. All Kings goals came from separate players, including a shootout tally from Anze Kopitar. Jonathan Quick made 44 saves in the loss, but failed to stop both of Anaheim’s shootout bids.
