Adrian Kempe and Carl Grundstrom join Jim Fox to discuss the sweet Freeway Face-Off goal that the Swedish rookie scored.
Grunstrom, being relatively new to the Kings, wasn't aware of how big the rivalry is. "But it was a great atmosphere at the game," he admitted. "It was really fun."
Every sport is a game of inches, but this play specifically exemplified that. Tyler Toffoli slid the puck over to Kempe, who then quickly snapped it over to Grundstrom.
"As soon as [Tyler] passes to me, the defenseman had to turn," Kempe said. That allowed Kempe to move forward with speed and quickly feed the puck across the ice. "I think because I passed it pretty quick, the defenseman wasn't really ready for it."
"I wanted that puck," Grundstrom said. And when he finally got it, he wasn't going to pass up the scoring opportunity. "The goalie started to come out at me, so I tried to take the puck to the side and worked out well."
"I was very happy when he put that in," Kempe said.
Weren't we all?
