The inaugural LA Kings Youth Girls Hockey Program will begin this Wednesday, November 4, at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.
The new program is made up of 40 girls – ages 8-12 – who play hockey around the area. They will compete in three tournaments this season including during Thanksgiving and Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend events after participating in a Jr. Kings Tournament this past Labor Day.
In their first competition, they competed in the Mite (8u) division at a Jr. Kings tourney in El Segundo and finished in third place. Since then the program has steadily been growing, and the Kings will have up to three teams at the 2015 Lady Ducks Fall Classic over Thanksgiving and at the San Jose Jr. Sharks MLK Tournament at San Jose.
Beginning next month the new program will features practices twice a week at Toyota Sports Center on Wednesday and Friday evenings though late May. Next season the Kings are looking to expand the program to other rinks in the Los Angeles area, and it will incorporate elements of the Learn to Play Program (Lil’ Kings), in-house games within the program, and growth of SCAHA teams at all age and skill levels.
