In My Own Words - Colin Fraser

by Staff Writer / Los Angeles Kings

Fans can relive the greatest season in Los Angeles Kings history with The Official Story of the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings. The commemorative book contains key details and images from the run, a foreword by Luc Robitaille, an introduction from Bob Miller and an afterward from Dustin Brown, and also included is an exclusive DVD with Bob Miller and Jim Fox announcing the Cup-clinching Game 6.

Here now on, we share a portion of this special book as Colin Fraser – who played in three playoff games when the Blackhawks won the Cup in 2010 and 18 playoff games during the Kings’ championship season -- in his own words talks about the experience of winning with a club in his first year with that club:

After being traded to the Kings in June 2011, I came into training camp a little bit early, and we went on a team trip to Mr. Anschutz’s ranch, right outside of Denver. I knew right away it was a great group of guys. I felt comfortable because friendships were easily made, so it was fun to come to the rink every day.

You always talk about having good starts to series, good starts to games. To score the first goal of the Final, and the first goal of my playoff career, was very exciting and one of those moments I’ll never forget as a player.

Actually playing in the Final, after being a healthy scratch during Chicago’s championship run in 2010, took it to a whole new level. It’s more fun, and you feel like you’re contributing more and being a bigger part of the team. Even though in Chicago I enjoyed winning a Cup, it was more satisfying this time around—to win and to contribute on a nightly basis. There’s a little more pride in that than in just watching.

You take it one game at a time, and you feel like the ultimate goal is so far away. Then, before you know it, you’re lifting the Stanley Cup. It’s a surreal feeling. It took awhile to set in, especially winning the second time and playing. All the battles were worth it. It’s one of those things you want to do every year.
