by Staff Writer / Los Angeles Kings

NEW YORK (Jan. 10, 2014) – The incomparable Wayne Gretzky, whose arrival in Los Angeles 25 years ago catalyzed an explosion of hockey in California still being felt today, will be at Dodger Stadium on Monday, Jan. 13, when the rink build formally begins for the Jan. 25 Coors Light
NHL Stadium SeriesTM game between the Los Angeles Kings® and Anaheim Ducks®. The Great One, a former Kings captain, holder of dozens of National Hockey League® records and the leading scorer in League history, will be on-site when the NHL’s® “ice truck” arrives in Chavez Ravine. The 53-foot trailer has made a cross-country journey from cold and snowy Ann Arbor, Mich., passing through eight U.S. states to arrive in Southern California.

The "ice truck" was responsible for making the ice at the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®, the historic game on New Year’s Day in which the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in a shootout with 105,491 fans watching.

The world’s largest mobile refrigeration unit will travel more than 2,200 miles to cross the California border for the first time. The Jan. 25 game in Los Angeles marks a series of firsts: it will be the first outdoor regular-season NHL game played in the U.S. west of the Mississippi River, the southernmost outdoor game in League history and the first-ever outdoor NHL game in California. In its 51-year history, the venerable Dodger Stadium has hosted eight World Series and close to 4,000 regular-season games, but never a hockey game – marking another first for this Stadium Series event.

A limited number of tickets to the Kings vs. Ducks match-up at Dodger Stadium are available for purchase via and, the official ticket marketplace of the NHL.

The Kings and Ducks will face off at iconic Dodger Stadium at 7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014. The game will be telecast nationally in the U.S. on NBC Sports Network and throughout Canada on CBC and RDS2. SiriusXM Satellite Radio will provide radio coverage. NHL NetworkTM and will provide extensive coverage live from Southern California leading up to and after the game.
