GREEN BREAKS O'CONNELL'S MARK
by Staff Writer / Los Angeles KingsGreen broke Mike O’Connell’s 25-year-old League record with a powerplay goal 5:33 into the second period of tonight’s game between the Capitals and the Tampa Bay Lightning at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida. Washington won the game 5-1 to improve to a 35-16-5 record. The Capitals are currently tied for second in the Eastern Conference standings with 75 points.
Green leads all NHL defensemen in scoring this season with 22 goals and 28 assists for 50 points. The 23-year-old native of Calgary, Alberta, had tied O’Connell’s record – set with Boston during the 1983-84 season – by scoring twice during the second period of Washington’s game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 11.
During his record-setting streak, Green has scored 10 goals and 7 assists for 17 points.
