Los Angeles – Southern California hockey fans have spoken and selected a name for the local NHL rivalry. Following a seven-week online contest, “Freeway Face-Off” has become the name by which all future competitions between the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings will be called. “Freeway Face-Off” received over 4,800 votes, besting three other finalists: “Freezeway Series”, “Ice-5 Series” and “Crosstown Showdown.”
FSN PRIME TICKET reveals the rivalry name during telecast coverage of the Kings at Ducks tonight in Anaheim. The unveiling will be teased on FSN PRIME TICKET during the pre-game “FSN Live”, at the start of the game telecast and throughout the first period. Ducks’ Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Burke and Kings’ Assistant General Manager Ron Hextall will be on “FSN Live” during the first period intermission to help make the announcement and speak to the rivalry.
As the “Freeway Face-Off” name and logo are revealed, “Name the Rivalry” contest winner Jenny Keane will be introduced, congratulated and presented with the grand prize, which includes two tickets to each of the future 2007-08 “Freeway Face-Off” games. Keane, one of 65 fans who submitted “Freeway Face-Off”, was randomly selected as the winner per contest rules.
Spoils for the winner of the eight-game “Freeway Face-Off” rivalry include a $50,000 donation to the team’s foundation and possession of the series trophy.
