Kings fans saw him on the ice for 10 years in Los Angeles and they have seen him for the past 18 years work with Bob Miller as the team’s color analyst for all Kings television broadcasts.

Now fans have an opportunity to see Jim Fox in a different light, as a wine connoisseur.

“I am more of a consumer than a connoisseur,” Fox said tongue-in-cheek.

On Friday, Sept. 14, Fox, in conjunction with, will host the “Toast to Downtown” from 5-8 p.m. at the City View Terrace at STAPLES Center.

“I played the game of hockey with passion and now I am very passionate about the study of wine and gaining as much knowledge of wine as I can. I have taken classes and I have traveled, and I just love to learn about wine. It is an ongoing education and it has been wonderful.”

“My passion for wine is no different than my passion for hockey.”

Fans will be able to come on out and sip wine at sunset while supporting a great cause. Toast to Downtown will serve gourmet appetizers and will showcase more than 40 great wines with top sommeliers and educators presenting a wide array of brands and flavors from around the world.

Music will be provided by KCRW DJ Jason Kramer and there will be luxury item silent auction which will include exciting trips, impossible to acquire tickets and some exceptional pieces of signed memorabilia. Fox will be handing out tickets doing his own wine commentary and providing plenty of surprises throughout the evening.

Proceeds will benefit the STAPLES Center Foundation which has established a number of partnerships in the Los Angeles community to assist charities in raising funds and awareness for their organizations with a special emphasis on the low-income neighborhoods surrounding the arena. The Foundation has donated an excess of $7 million in financial and in-kind support to many community-based organizations, helping to reach those in need.

“Nothing brings people together like great hockey, great wine and STAPLES center. If we can do that and benefit the STAPLES center foundation, it is going to be a great evening for everyone.”
