When it comes to working out, many people tend to overlook one of the most important aspects of physical activity: Recovery.

Like any well-oiled machine, recovery time is necessary for your body to reach its full potential. This was a hard habit for me to adopt, after finishing a workout, or after a long day of work, the idea of adding a 5-minute recovery circuit into my schedule seemed like a waste of time.

I always have some potatoes roasted and ready to go in my fridge, as they're the foundation of a lot of my meal prep for the week.

Energy balls are all the rage these days.

You can find them for sale at almost any boutique health food store. I used to buy them at our local organic grocer, until they disappeared one afternoon. I went back the next week and, nope, still gone.

So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and make my own. I always wished the ones I used to buy had different ingredients, and had more nuts for added protein and healthy fats. So when making my own, I now had that control.

This is the recipe I came up with, and am loving it! These little guys are great pre or post-workout snacks, or just a little something sweet if you're on the go and need a quick pick me up. They are also a great gift or something to bring to a party. They are a great little desert. No processed sugar, all organic, and so yummy!

Roasted Leek and Brussels Sprout Quinoa Recipe

Quinoa is a superstar.

It contains almost twice the amount of fiber and protein as other grains. It contains iron, lysine, magnesium, riboflavin, as well as all 9 essential amino acids, I mean I could go on and on.

I eat a mainly plant-based diet, supplemented with grass fed, lean proteins, so I don't eat many grains, but this is one grain I will never cut out.

Here is a recipe of a quinoa dish I try to keep in my fridge for the week. It's easy to grab and go, or if I want a mid-day snack, I'll take a few bites. Hope you Enjoy!

Fit to be King - Run Into Fall

Running and I have always had a love hate relationship. It is one of my favorite, and least favorite workouts. I find that motivating myself to run, over any workout, has always been the hardest. But, once you get past the consistent 5 day stretch, it is one of the most freeing and mindful workouts there is. The easiest way for me to get past this hump, was creating circuits on the treadmill, almost like a game.

As much as I love the outdoors, I have found that the treadmill is the quickest way for me to find my groove and to push my running to the next level. I also love the treadmill, because in fitness there are so few exercises where you can see immediate progress right in front of your eyes, and with the treadmill, just by going .1 or .2 faster, you instantly see that you can push a little more than you thought. 

By doing these circuits on the treadmill, my outdoor running times have gotten faster and my endurance level higher, so go find yourself a treadmill and have at it!
